Edwardian Small Side Table c1910
This is a very attractive, useful and elegant small table
in solid mahogany in the Sheraton Revival style.
The shaped top lies over two short and one long
drawer on slender square legs.
The quality of workmanship on this piece is just superb,
with rosewood crossbanding and chequer inlay to the
top surrounding a figured central panel and broad
crossbanding. Each mahogany lined drawer is
bounded by rosewood crossbanding and there is ebony
stringing to the legs. The sides are also
bordered by chequer inlay.
The brass handles to the two short drawers are later
replacements (in the correct style for the piece)
and the two original handles retain traces of
the
original ormolu finish.
Overall, the table is in excellent original condition
with no cracks, breaks or repairs anywhere.
There is no evidence of warping or woodworm.
The table has never been stripped or repolished thus
retaining its original patina with a good rich depth
of colour.
It is rare to find a piece of such quality in such good
original condition.
